Find out which games, Golden and his wife died in a car wreck, and Andy passed away last year after a long illness. The week after the Athens-Valdosta game, Coach Sellers showed the game film several times in the Athens High auditorium.

It was a special time, and very significant and apropos, as that was the last football season for the Athens High Trojans. Valdosta knows they really lost. And I know we really won. Go Trojans! My gratitude to the more than three dozen people who shared memories, information and photos for this article.

I had moved to Valdosta the summer before from a 1 stop light town in north FL. I felt like I was now playing in the NFL! I too ended up playing for coach Dooley. Andy Johnson was one of or maybe the best high school quarterback in GA.

Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory. I was there and still get chill bumps remembering that night. It was my honor to live on the same road as Andy Johnson and his family. I knew then that this kid was going to be someone great in football… to tell the truth, he was.

Really exciting. Sitting on pins and needles the whole game. I think Benny Edmons 1st touchdown run really set the tone for that game. What a fantastic memory to have and share.

Coach Sellers really turned boys into men. Fred McLean. I checked YouTube for any uploads of the game and came up empty. Seeing how it was the state championship there must be film around that could be converted and uploaded.
