My experience with Altus has been on three different occasions: ice climbing, ski touring and mountaineering, and each time had an awesome adventure. If you are climbing multi-pitch routes or leading single pitch routes, Rock Rescue Skills are crucial to have in your repertoire in case of an accident in either your party or an adjacent team.
Please come prepared to spend the whole day outside in all types of weather. It can be anything from cold in the morning as you will be climbing in the shade to very hot in the sun! Please arrive in the morning with food and drink for the day.

Ross has guided, climbed and skied in the European Alps for the last several seasons. When he's at home he can be found working as a heli ski guide in winters and climbing alpine rock routes in summer. Barry's muscles were cramping, and he was struggling up the cliff, as he was closer to the top than the bottom. The boys watched him from the former, concerned as he looked to be struggling quite a bit. Suddenly, inches from the top, he lost his grip and fell off, plunging to the bottom.
Jeremy shrieked in horror after seeing Barry fall, and he, Josh, and Corbin immediately rushed down to him. Josh got there first, but when he saw him, he started going into shock. Jeremy sent him and Corbin to call for help while he tended to Barry.
Barry had a huge gash under his chin, which Jeremy covered with his shirt to stop the bleeding. He was worried because Barry looked to be in bad shape and didn't know whether he was going to make it or not.
Meanwhile, Josh and Corbin ran down the trail to the nearest house. Josh called , but he was so hysterical, the dispatcher couldn't understand him.
The homeowner took over, asking him for any information she didn't know. She told the dispatcher that Barry was on the old quarry road near the ballpark, Corbin would meet them there, and lead them to the correct spot. The rescue team was dispatched, but they didn't know what to do, as no one knew the extent of Barry's injuries. Once the prusik engages, this will raise the climber. At that point, slide the prusik back down the rope and repeat.
The auto-blocking belay device will hold the climber while you reset the system. Lowering a climber with an auto-blocking belay device set up on the anchor is a topic fraught with debate. From the belay device, take a few feet of the brake strand and tie an overhand on a bight, then clip that to the anchor with a locking biner A. This will be the backup for your friction hitch. Slide the Klemheist down the rope as far as you can.
Transfer the weight of the climber from the belay device to the Klemheist by wiggling the biner clipped through the loop of the belay device back and forth D.
Keep wiggling it until a few inches of rope have moved through the device and the Klemheist has engaged, holding the weight of the climber. Remove the belay device E completely from the setup, and with that section of rope, tie a Munter onto the locker that was holding the belay device on the anchor.
